Attractions
One of the greatest attractions of Sri Lanka is Kandy. It is a small town and the historical fortress of Buddhist power. It is a beautiful town built around a pretty lake and is surrounded by hills from all sides. It has beautiful architecture, which is shown in its old buildings, shops, markets and hotels. The most famous attraction of the place is octagonal Dalada Maligawa temple. This temple is famous for it houses Sri Lanka most sacred religious artifact: the tooth of the Buddha. Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara, which is another famous Buddha Temple, is a great tourist attraction. It is believed that the Buddha preached at this place about 2000 years ago. Later a temple was constructed at the spot. The temple had been destroyed by Indian invaders and later by Portuguese invaders but was reconstructed in the 18th and 19th centuries. The monument of Aukana also attracts tourists visiting Sri Lanka. This beautiful statue of standing Aukana Buddha is believed to be constructed in the 5th century during the reign of Dhatusena. Although some historians believe it to be constructed in the 12th century. Apart from the temples there are some exotic beaches in Sri Lanka that are a place to relax and have fun.
Language
The official language of Sri Lanka is Sinhala. Tamil language is also extremely popular in Sri Lanka. People of Sri Lanka also speak English to a great extent.

Sri Lanka offers great options for shopping. You can get great varieties of handlooms, gems, jewelry, furniture and handicrafts. You can shop for pretty saris of handloom from Sri Lanka. Although the handloom industry was once thriving to sustain but it has now grown to a good extent. You can buy pretty gems from Sri Lanka. There are large number of gem shops all over Sri Lanka where you can get various gems in different cuts and designs. Ratnapura is the biggest market for gems and jewelry. There are large number of jewelry shops that sell beautiful designs of jewelry. The ceramic products of Sri Lanka are also worth picking. Destinations in Sri Lanka
Anuradhapura
Anuradhapura is one of the most loved destinations of Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura was Sri Lanka\'s original capital, a powerful icon of Singhalese might, and the most widespread and significant of Sri Lanka\'s olden cities. It developed into a capital of Sri Lanka in 380 BC and for over 1000 years Singhalese rulers ruled from this enormous capital. The Sacred Bo-Tree is the city’s most sacred places, and was developed from the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. The Thuparama Dagoba, one of the oldest temples of the place is of great importance for the fact that it is believed that this temple has the right collarbone of the Buddha.
Colombo
Colombo is the largest city of Sri Lanka and the hub of trade and commerce in Sri Lanka. Although the city is quite noisy, chaotic and has huge traffic but still is among popular destinations of Sri Lanka. The north part of the city has the Fort District that is the country’s commercial point and the southern part is the seafront. There are some great art galleries, a national museum and number of temples and mosques that are worth watching.
