Honduras

The official name of Honduras is the Republic of Honduras. Earlier it was called the Spanish Honduras because there was a British Honduras also which is now called the Belize. Honduras is a beautiful country, which has a quite and calm charm of its own. Traveling in Honduras is easy as well as quite cheap. The unhurried lick, natural loveliness and modest tourism make it pleasing to travelers. Honduras is a vivacious state, crammed with lucid turquoise waters, perfect beaches, abundant forests, magnificent hills, exigent rivers, and enthralling antique remains. Huge areas of natural beauty are found everywhere. Eco tours, reasonably priced scuba diving, mountain treks and river rafting are the opportunities for which Honduras is recognized today. Honduras is benefiting from a shot in fame, as the wealthy and famed have found a destination where they can still tour unidentified. Travel to Honduras

There are international flights available to and from Honduras very easily. The major destinations for international tourists are San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa and Roatan. Recently, the domestic network of airlines has also grown rapidly in Honduras. So it has become quite easy to explore Honduras. Also there is a good network of buses with in the country. Boats are the easiest and the most popular mode of transport in the coastal area. You can also hire a taxi to explore the small towns of the country.

The beaches of Honduras are the major attraction to the tourist coming from all over the world. The beach in Roatan is immaculate. You have a great chance of having a good catch in the Honduras waters. Taking an eco tour to Gunaja is also one of the favorite attractions for tourists visiting Honduras. Utila diving is reasonably priced so are great fascination for the visitors. The Tela beaches are something that no tourist should miss if visiting Honduras. Gunaja, the tallest island in the Bay Islands is an adventurous island entirely covered with Caribbean pine. It has the most exotic looking beaches, silvery sands and wonderful climate wrapped in cool breezes. There are lush green mountains with great mountains having a spectacular variety of flora and fauna. Another attraction is the Hog Islands. Apart from the excellent avenues for hiking, snorkeling, and bird watching, this Island offers the opportunity to experience the culture of Honduras. The local people of the near by villages provide with the local food along with the singing and dancing. Utila lies nearest to the Honduran Mainland. The chief town in Utila is known as East Harbor or simply Utila, and is situated on the eastern side of the Island, between the Upper Lagoon and the Lower Lagoon. There is a mountain on the island called the Pumpkin Hill, which offers a fascinating sight of the whole Island, as well as Roatan. Utila has turned out to be fairly well known for two diverse events that are held here annually the Utila Carnival and the Utila Sunjam. The Utila carnival takes place annually in the end of July. You can experience the Honduras culture during the carnival. The Utila Sunjam is a huge techno music bash that takes place at Water Key all through the first week in August.

Language

The official language of Honduras is Spanish. Although English is also spoken in many parts of the country, but it is confined mostly to the bigger towns of the Bay islands.

Shopping

Shopping is great fun in Honduras. You can shop for lot of things ranging from spectacular handicrafts to rum, coffee and vanilla. You have excellent opportunities to shop for amazing hand made bags, wallets and garments to take for your near and dear ones back home. The cigars of Honduras are also very famous all over the world. Do not miss to buy some excellent hand rolled cigars available locally, if you have taste for them.

Destinations in Honduras

Tela

One of the most popular destinations of Honduras is Tela. It is a small, calm, coastal town. It offers some of the most exotic beaches in the whole world. Other than beaches there are other areas that you can explore in the town like Punta Sal National Park, Lancetilla Gardens and Punta Izopo Wildlife Refuge.

Tegucigalpa

Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras is another favorite destination among the tourists. It is a bustling town situated in the bowl shaped gorge. It has beautiful locations as a ring of mountains that are entirely covered with pine trees surrounds it.
